Fabric, buttons, and furniture. Oh my!

I hope everyone is having a great week. We're having some nice sunny weather. It started off very windy but it's calmed down a lot. Last week my sister and I went to a couple of thrift stores. She had bee indoors for a few days so figure I'd take her into the capital and show her around. We had lots of fun. We spend some quality time together.  We went to one of my favorite, hidden gem of a thrift store. At first it didn't seem like there was anything for us. I went over to their crafting corner. That's where they keep all their, fabric, books, patterns, and anything else that qualifies as a craft. Boy did we hit the jackpot. I was able to find several fabrics that work as day dresses or blouses.

This fabric still had the original yardage and price tag. It was 3 yards for $1.45  It's feels like a voile. I may need to make or buy a nice slip.

This I'm for sure making into a Peter Pan collar blouse. I've bought the accent fabric (navy blue) and will probably work on it once my sister goes back home.

This fabric reminds me of the feed sack cloth is I see on Etsy. This will definitely be turned into a house dress. I want to start wearing dresses while I'm at home. I feel more lady-like whenever I wear long flowing skirts. I love the swish of fabric and petticoats.

This next fabric in my opinion was the true find of the day. It's is such a great print and if there had been more fabric I would have turned it into a circle skirt. Unfortunately, there was only a yard of the fabric. My sister snatched it up and  wants to make a tote bag with it.

Here's some close ups of the fabric elephant and the donkey.   It's is a really nice fabric. Mint condition, no stains, rips or tears. It's really great because it's also an election year for us.

I also bought some vintage buttons at Junkee's. I like vintage buttons because they are pretty and have a lot more durability than modern buttons. And at $1 a card it's a great price. I also bought a belt buckle for $1. Since it's white I figure it'll work well as a reversible black/white belt. I love the vintage packaging of notions. they are so cute and decorative.

I don't know if I've mentioned it but I've been wanting to get a vanity for our bedroom. The hubby seems to think that there's not enough room for a vanity but I know there is. I had seen this sewing table at before mentioned thrift store. It was a solid table. It didn't have the built-in sewing machine anymore but that's fine. I really don't need another sewing machine. I took the plunge and bought it.

It needs to be sanded down and either stained or painted. I haven't decided what I want to do with it. I'd like to paint it either white of mint green. It has a leaf that opens to the left. I want to put a bottom in where the sewing machine was and add some organization tray. I also need to find a mirror it. My husband doesn't believe in painting antique furniture. If after I sand it they wood grain looks pretty I'll just stain and varnish it. I took wood shop in high school for 3 years. I really love wood working. I made a bookshelf and an all Cherry wood vanity. My mom has it at her house.

This shelf I'm going to paint white. I like wicker just not in its natural color. For the patio it's fine but this is going in our bedroom. I'll use it for my perfumes and small trinkets.

I LOVE straw bags/purses. I love the smell and feel of it. This little gem was hidden in the back of another thrift store in the gardening section. Weird place to put it at but hey, it worked out for me.

How cool is this necklace? I bough it at the antique mall in Reno. I need to change the chain since it's a little tight.

Here's my first piece of Bakelite. I really like the color and feel of these. I may change the backs from screw on to posts. I have a hard time keeping screw on earrings well on. Unless their only really tight they slip off.

Well, thanks for reading and as always I leave you a pic of my Ridley-Boy. He's back to his normal self. He's actually a lot more playful since he was neutered. It's nice and very cute. Well I hope you all have a great week and weekend.

I really want to thank you for all of the wonderful comments you leave on my posts. They mean a lot to me and are always deeply appreciate and enjoyed.

  3. Oh you scored on the haberdashery front!! I love the blue and green floral fabric so much and can't wait to see your house-dress:)). I love wearing dresses around the house too - so much cooler in summer and I'm wearing maxis around the house this winter with leggings hiding underneath for extra warmth. I love your sewing table - and you're a wood-worker! That's very impressive, you must be a patient person xoxo

    1. I was wearing leggins under my jeans during winter too. It just make it much warmer for me. And no too bulky.

Wood working is one of the few things a take a long time with. I really enjoyed it. It made me feel very accomplished seeing something made from nothing.
