I'm Back!

Well we made it through the weekend alive and had fun. It really was a whirlwind. I really didn't think that it would go by so quickly.
I had so much fun. I had been looking forward to this party for a long time. We had a rough patch with Jesse losing his job, but thank God things worked out for us. It was the first time in three months that I had any alcohol. People kept refilling my champagne glass and offering to get me more beer.

I felt pretty that day. I really did. I don't always feel pretty or like I look good. I did my own hair and make-up. I was going to have someone do my hair but felt it was silly to pay $80 for a hairstyle when I don't usually like what people do to my hair. I rolled my hair in foam rollers and slept in them over night. That's the only way the curls will last all day. I didn't remove the curlers until around 4 pm on the day of the reception. I did my make up at my in-laws' house and boy am I glad I did. There would have been no time at the center. Once we began taking our photos things just went faster. Before I knew it the room was full of people and people were having fun.

Oh yeah, my father showed up. I really didn't want him there but I wasn't going to kick him out. Of course my poor mom didn't enjoy the day and who would when your cheating, abusive, demeaning husband is just there to look good in front of people. The only good thing about him going was that got enough money from the dollar dance to buy myself a new washer.
everyone was worried that I was upset. I wasn't really upset. I was indifferent towards him.

The food was great. I hadn't had carnitas ( fried pork butt) that juicy and tasty in a long time. The cake was great too. Everyone had fun and enjoyed themselves. We got a ton of presents. Like the backseat and trunk were completely full. It was a really nice surprise. We got a lot of kitchen things.

I don't know when we're going to get our pics back but here's one of us and our cake. I really like the way our cake turned out.

Week Zero

This is the week of our wedding reception. We're getting the last details together. I'm excited and nervous even though we're not having a ceremony. I've got almost everything packed. Just need the hubby to finish making a few selections. Luckily everything is falling in place and order. I'm so happy to have a family that has been very supportive and helpful.

My mom told me over the weekend that my father wants to come to the reception and congratulate my on my marriage. I had a feeling that he would end up doing something like this. It still remains to be seen if he actually shows up. To be honest, I don't really feel anything about it. I mean, you would think I would be angry or upset but I guess I'm over him. If he wants to wish us the best, great . If he decides to flake, then it won't ruin my day. All I want if for my mom and my siblings to be there. Their the ones that have always been there to help and support us.

I'm trying to leave the house as tidy as possible so that when we come back we dont have to worry about cleaning up. Lent begins tomorrow. It'll be a new experience for Jesse. We went to Costco to get the basics when I told him it would be good to get some seafood for Lent. Often we don't realize what we're eating. He started naming off foods that he could eat on Fridays but like 90% of them had meat of sort. I bought some Garlic and Sea Salt Mahi Mahi and some shrimp tempura. I can make plenty of dishes with that for a few weeks.

These are the flowers that Jesse got me for Valentine's Day

I do love getting flowers but they die so quickly. You'll have to excuse the mess on the table. It's been a perpetual mess for the last couple of weeks. Once we get back I plan on using the hobby room for its intended purpose: hobbies. I'm going to ask my mother-in-law for a few sprigs of succulents so I can have some kind of plants in the house.

I probably won't post for a few days. I really appreciate everyone's comments. Thank you for reading what this girl thinks in this world. Until next time, Ta!

And the Beat Goes On

We finally got some snow. It's been a really dry winter in Northern Nevada. Thanksgiving 2010 there was about 3 feet of snow on the ground. Thanksgiving 2011 it was a sunny 67* F out. It's been a nice winter but I've wanted lots of snow. This morning I woke up and there was about 2 inches of snow covering the ground. Not a lot but enough to make this girl happy. Ridley was really curious about the white stuff on the floor. I put his sweater on and let him explore the snow. He was out there for less than 5 minutes. He's one curious kitty but smart too.

Luckily, we got our garage door fixed yesterday. The pulley cable broke and we had to force it close. We were afraid that some little kid might get hurt. We had been trying to get in touch we with the landlord but keep getting their voice mail. Then I get a call from the landlord saying that the number is one that they don't use often. SO the garage guy came over and fixed it.

Our 1 year anniversary was on Monday. The preacher who married us in Vegas gave us a choice of the 12th or 13th. I picked 13th because it would be easier for him to remember being the day before Valentine's Day. For our anniversary he got me this cute shirt from Woot.com It's got a kitty kneading a ball of dough on the front. I really like it. I got him a flask. I figure every man needs a flask. I hope he likes it. We celebrated our anniversary on Sunday. We went to the movies and saw "Woman in Black." It was a good movie. It's hared seeing Daniel Radcliffe outside of his Harry Potter role but he pulled it off well. We went to dinner at the Olive Garden. It was good but super busy. He bought me a bouquet of flowers too. I like getting flowers.

We're 10 days out from our reception. We still havent gotten our card box finished. I kept nagging at him to work on it a month ago and now it's going to be rushed. I order the flowers and linens. Paid the balance for the cake. I need to mail out our cake toppers. We bought a couple of Koopa Paratroopas. One has a red shell the other a green one which are both of our favorite colors. I gave my Koopa a pearl necklace and a bouquet of flowers. Jesse's Koopa is going to wear a black bow tie.

Back in November, I made a manda to the Virgen de Guadalupe. I asked her to help Jesse find a job and help us stay here in our new home. If she helped us, I promised her my hair (meaning that I would cut off my hair.) Mind you, I hadn't cut my hair in over 6 years and that was a big step for me. I also promised to stop drinking for 3 months. Well the 3 months are almost up and I look forward to having a cup or two with my Hubby. He's really excited.

I need to take pics of the glitter shoes I made for the reception and some of the other vintage stuff I bough over the last couple of weeks. I've been practicing knitting. It's actually really easy. I've been practicing knit and purl stitch. I eventually want to make vintage boleros and sweaters. There are a TON of knitting patterns on Etsy. I'm sure once the reception has come and gone, I'll have more time to work on making clothes and knitting.

Oh I finally won something. I won a couple of vintage chickies from The Glamorous Housewife . I am totally excited! I NEVER win anything. I have bad luck when it comes to that kind of stuff. I can't wait to make a post when I get them. Yay!

Well until next time, Ta!

I got the sniffles!

I think I'm getting sick. :( I really don't want to be sick but I've been around the husband everyday and he's been kinda sick. Yesterday was the first day he wasn't coughing and feeling bad. I was sneezing like crazy last night. I sometimes get sneezy in the evenings. Then today around 2 p.m. I felt really tired and my face felt hot. I'm taking some vitamin C and supplements. Our wedding anniversary in on Monday and I hope I'm not feeling bad.

I was suppose to start making a nice winter jacket but I've been all out of sorts. I can't find our checkbook! I've looked every where and can't find it. We have more check but I need to find that darn checkbook. I've been very diligent at keeping the kitchen clean lately. I'm one of those cooks that always makes a mess when cooking. Even if I'm making something as simple as scrambled eggs it gets all over the counters. Oh well. I LOVE cooking and baking. My husband loves the Mexican food I make but unfortunately there aren't many places where I can buy the condiments and cuts of meats I need. I'm hoping to squeeze some shopping in when we go down to Orange County. I'm running out of curry paste and some other snacks. I'd also like to go to Torrid and get myself some new jeans and tops. I've got plenty of shoes.

Last night it was the premier of Doomsday Preppers . It was an interesting show. I really liked the fact that most of the preppers were very family oriented. It was nice to see them all help and support each other. Another thing I noticed was that most of them were from Texas. Texas. Yeah. I've never been but that makes sense from the people I've met working. The show also had an assessment for all the preppers and that part was pretty cool. It told them their strengths and weaknesses. Jesse and I have always wanted an emergency kit. This show gives us ideas of things that are actually worthwhile.

Before my Abuelita (Grandma) Ines passed away, she gave me a few of her rebozos . I washed them and put them in storage. I was always intrigued by traditional Mexican wear. I love the vibrancy of the colors and design but always felt like I would be people would resent me being Mexican. I have come to terms with the fact that people will always be jerks but you have to be better than them and not hold it against them. Ignorance can be fixed stupidity can't.Anyways, sorry to get off track. I'm going to be wearing one of my rebozos to the reception. I was going to wear a bolero but I think the rebozo will be a nod towards my heritage. I asked my mom to have my aunt buy me pattern books to make my own guanengo . These blouses are really breezy and great for the summer months. I had an old one but I think I tossed it in accident. Totally sucks. I want to make a few for the summer.

I'm so tired. I hope I get over this quickly. Until next time. Ta!

What I've Done Lately

I just came back from a 35 minute walk. I walked about 1.2 miles to the post office and back. I need to buy some actual walking shoes. I sold a purse and had to mail it out today. It gives me motivation whenever I make a sale to go out and walk. I had to bundle up though. It's 46 degrees Fahrenheit out today. That's probably the high for the rest of the day. It's nice because it's sunny out. If it were cloudy, I probably wouldn't have gotten out of my PJs.

Jesse has had a persistent cough for the last couple of weeks. It'll get better during the week but during the weekend it gets worse. I honestly think that if he had taken medicine when I had told him to it wouldn't have gotten as bad. I hope he feels better before our reception. I want him to enjoy it as much as I do or rather am. I've been getting the last bit of things together over the last couple of weeks which is why I haven't updated. I have most of the photo booth props ready just need to get a couple of hats from the Dollar Tree.
I was going to make Thank You bags for Jesse's relatives that are helping set up the room but it's not in the budget and I don't have the time. We decided to take everyone out to breakfast the Sunday after the reception. It'll give us some more time together before we have to come back. We're renting a car since Jesse's car is might not make it over the big hill near Mammoth.

I'm going to glitter a pair my shoes for the reception. I looked high and low for a pair of affordable eye-catching heels but everything was out of my budget. I have been practicing wearing these shoes around the house for several hours to get used to them. So far so good. I'm going to make them RED. I LOVE red. It's been my favorite color since I was a kid. Red and hearts have always been my thing.

Our anniversary is in a week. It will be our one year anniversary. I bought Jesse a 6 oz flask with his initials on it. It'll be a little late but I think he'll like it. I don't know if he'll use it since he only drinks with me but I figure it's a classy gift for my man. I need a new wedding band. I only paid $30 for it and it shows it. I'd like to get a simple silver wedding band.

I'm going to do my own hair for the reception. It's a lot short. I figure something
Photobucket

My hair is a little bit longer but I figure it'll look good. I'm going to put a flower on one side. I haven't decided whether to have a magnolia or white orchids. I'm still debating on wearing a birdcage veil or not. I guess I'll just have to try it out and see if I like the way I look.

Onto non-reception related things. I am having lenses put into my vintage frames. They should be done this week. I bought some contact lenses too. I took advantage of having the car and went thrifting. I bought a couple of purses, a couple of pairs of shoes, a necklace, and a vintage kitty vase. I'll post pics once I get around to taking them.

I tried making apple chips. I had tried some at Costco a few weeks ago and really liked them. We also had some of the freeze dried apples and those were really yummy. First I used some Delicious Red and those did not taste good. They left a bitter after taste in my mouth. The Gala apples were super sweet and crispy. I topped them with a little cinnamon. I had to raise the oven temp to 250 degrees F. but other than that it was fun and easy. Oh and the house smelled great. Like fresh baked apple pie.
