Fabric, buttons, and furniture. Oh my!

I hope everyone is having a great week. We're having some nice sunny weather. It started off very windy but it's calmed down a lot. Last week my sister and I went to a couple of thrift stores. She had bee indoors for a few days so figure I'd take her into the capital and show her around. We had lots of fun. We spend some quality time together.  We went to one of my favorite, hidden gem of a thrift store. At first it didn't seem like there was anything for us. I went over to their crafting corner. That's where they keep all their, fabric, books, patterns, and anything else that qualifies as a craft. Boy did we hit the jackpot. I was able to find several fabrics that work as day dresses or blouses.

Photobucket
This fabric still had the original yardage and price tag. It was 3 yards for $1.45  It's feels like a voile. I may need to make or buy a nice slip.

Photobucket
This I'm for sure making into a Peter Pan collar blouse. I've bought the accent fabric (navy blue) and will probably work on it once my sister goes back home.

Photobucket
This fabric reminds me of the feed sack cloth is I see on Etsy. This will definitely be turned into a house dress. I want to start wearing dresses while I'm at home. I feel more lady-like whenever I wear long flowing skirts. I love the swish of fabric and petticoats.

This next fabric in my opinion was the true find of the day. It's is such a great print and if there had been more fabric I would have turned it into a circle skirt. Unfortunately, there was only a yard of the fabric. My sister snatched it up and  wants to make a tote bag with it.

Here's some close ups of the fabric elephant and the donkey.   It's is a really nice fabric. Mint condition, no stains, rips or tears. It's really great because it's also an election year for us.

I also bought some vintage buttons at Junkee's. I like vintage buttons because they are pretty and have a lot more durability than modern buttons. And at $1 a card it's a great price. I also bought a belt buckle for $1. Since it's white I figure it'll work well as a reversible black/white belt. I love the vintage packaging of notions. they are so cute and decorative.

I don't know if I've mentioned it but I've been wanting to get a vanity for our bedroom. The hubby seems to think that there's not enough room for a vanity but I know there is. I had seen this sewing table at before mentioned thrift store. It was a solid table. It didn't have the built-in sewing machine anymore but that's fine. I really don't need another sewing machine. I took the plunge and bought it.

Photobucket
It needs to be sanded down and either stained or painted. I haven't decided what I want to do with it. I'd like to paint it either white of mint green. It has a leaf that opens to the left. I want to put a bottom in where the sewing machine was and add some organization tray. I also need to find a mirror it. My husband doesn't believe in painting antique furniture. If after I sand it they wood grain looks pretty I'll just stain and varnish it. I took wood shop in high school for 3 years. I really love wood working. I made a bookshelf and an all Cherry wood vanity. My mom has it at her house.

Photobucket
This shelf I'm going to paint white. I like wicker just not in its natural color. For the patio it's fine but this is going in our bedroom. I'll use it for my perfumes and small trinkets.
Photobucket
I LOVE straw bags/purses. I love the smell and feel of it. This little gem was hidden in the back of another thrift store in the gardening section. Weird place to put it at but hey, it worked out for me.

Photobucket
How cool is this necklace? I bough it at the antique mall in Reno. I need to change the chain since it's a little tight.

Photobucket
Here's my first piece of Bakelite. I really like the color and feel of these. I may change the backs from screw on to posts. I have a hard time keeping screw on earrings well on. Unless their only really tight they slip off.

Well, thanks for reading and as always I leave you a pic of my Ridley-Boy. He's back to his normal self. He's actually a lot more playful since he was neutered. It's nice and very cute. Well I hope you all have a great week and weekend.

New Skirt

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Ours was a bit hot and sticky. The weather took a turn for the warmer and humid. It was in the low 90's and me had high humidity. I'm so glad that I decided to wear my hair up. I was going to try this awesome up do I did a wet set and slept on it. The top looked great but my bangs not so much. I realized that as I was trying to do the bangs that my hair really doesn't evenly. It's more noticeable around the hairline. I've been debating cutting my hair in the middy plus or femme fatale but with longer bangs. This pretty hairstyle pretty much cemented the idea for me. I couldn't get my hair into the nice curls because they were too frizzy and too long. Instead I just did a bumper bang with it. I really liked this hairstyle and will definitely be adding to my regular hairstyles.  Here's a couple of pics I snapped while getting ready. Please excuse my naked face.

I really liked the way the bumper bang turned out. Curling my hair really helped shape it. Sometimes I'm amazed at how flexible and pliable hair is.

We picked up my little sister on Saturday. Her flight was like an hour and a half late so we had some time to kill. We went to the Goodwill in Reno but left quickly after getting there. The female shoppers there are crazy. They're pushy and stalk you as if you know some hidden secret spot to find things. Oh and Jess saw a crack whore so yeah we left.
We killed time at the local Starbucks. I had a white chocolate mocha iced. Oh that was totally delicious. I had had it blended before and didn't really liked. It lost all of the delicate flavors and tasted like watered down coffee at best. Iced was delicious. I could taste all of the chocolate and it was very creamy. Yum.

After we picked up my sister we went to Rockabilly Riot. We eat at Johnny Rockets first. They food was quick and delicious. I saw a few rockabillies there. It was a nice gathering. There were a ton of nice cars there. Not as many shops and stores as I thought there would have been. There was a shop where girls could have their hair done. A lot of victory rolls. I didn't see a single girl with anything but victory rolls. I didn't really take a lot of pics because it was miserably hot. I did take my paper parasol and am I glad I did. I think I would have gotten sun burned.

Photobucket

This is the only full outfit shot I got. The husband gets irritable in hot weather. This car was really bitching. It was super sparkly and glittery. I love it. It sounded like a dream too. I need to make a simple A-line petticoat for this skirt. I tried to wear my regular petticoat in in and it just didn't work. I also went with flats and boy an I glad I did.  We walked around a lot and my feet were super hot. I got sunburned on the top of my feet. Yeah I burn to easily.

Until next time, I hope you all have a pleasant day.

So far this week

I've been crafty this week. I guess my Muse stopped by and gave a kick in the crafting butt.  A few months ago I lost our checkbook. I was cleaning up and thought I had put it away safely. Well,  I didn't . I looked all over the house and couldn't find it. I'm not really sure if I accidentally tossed it in the trash or if it's hiding in some odd nook in our house. I felt pretty darn stupid.

I've had this fabric for a while. I really like this  fabric. It has all of the Old Hollywood monsters and is just plain bad ass.

Photobucket

I decided to make a checkbook cover. This is the front of it. I laminated the fabric with iron-on vinyl. I lined it with black fabric. I was going to add some elastic for a pen but changed my mind last minute.

Photobucket

I also made my own checkbook registry. I simply cut out two pieces of manila folder and sewed them together. Then I lined and cute white paper to fit the base. It was really easy especially since I used my sewing machine.

Photobucket

I dyed my hair today. I touched up the roots and decided to try to dye my eyebrows. I've done it before but usually they turned out all streaky and  uneven. This time they turned out pretty well.

photo-25

photo-24

I'll probably still shade them in. I really like the full eyebrow look. Oh, these are the glasses that I got from my husband aunt. They're really comfortable. Not heavy either.

Photobucket

This is one of my monas (dolls) that I've had for a while. I'm not sure if she's a planter or a vase. As you can tell I use her to hold pens and other bits and bobs.

Photobucket
My pineapple skirt. I won the fabric off of eBay. This fabric is really nice. It's all cotton and has a slight linen feel to it. It's got a nice weight to it. I hope I'll have it done by tomorrow. Jesse and I are going to Rockabilly Riot this weekend. I'm going to pair the skirt with a black peasant blouse and maybe my red sandals. Do you guys think that it'll go with the skirt? I'm going for a tropical look. I'm also going to try an updo since it's suppose to be in the high 80's this weekend. I'm definitely taking my paper parasol. I get sun burned too easily.
My sister is flying in on Saturday. It'll be nice to have her home with me. I'll have someone talk to and go to walks with. I'll be sure to take lots of photos of us this weekend and post them once we get back.

Hope your week is going well.

Last Weekend

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  We had a nice weekend. Nice sunny weather and  plenty of sunshine. Jess had to work over-time on Saturday just for a few hours. It's was a change of pace. It  gets us extra money to save too.
We went to see Prometheus. It was a really good sci-fi movie. It seems to be a prequel to the Alien Saga. Jess loves the Alien Saga. I do too but I haven't watched it as often as he had. Up until August of 2011 I had been working 6 days a week every week. I didn't have cable just broadcast TV so I wasn't able to watch those kind of movies. Anyways, we went to dinner at Olive Garden since we had a gift card we could use. For some reason, the Alfredo sauce was really good. I like their sauce either way but this time it was really good.
I set my hair in a dry set early on Saturday. It took pretty well. I decided to try my hand at Victory rolls and faux bangs. I've tried Victory rolls before and sometimes I get them right and well, sometimes I don't. Here's a pics of my hair and make-up.

Photobucket

Okay so my hair isn't really that orange. I probably should have picked a different filter.

Here you can see my faux bangs. I tried to use a cut up bun rat but it didn't look well. I could see the ends sticking out and I didn't like it at all.
Photobucket
This was after we got home from the movies. It was after midnight. I was pretty tired/

My shoes. I actually ended up changing shoes because I tripped in a pot hole at the gas station. Yeah I eat it. I scrapped my palms and hurt my knee pretty bad. It sucked. I haven't tripped like that in a long time.

Here's a picture of our boy. He's doing great. He's been going out and enjoying some sunshine.

No mas bolas

Yesterday, Ridley-boy was finally neutered. I was very nervous since my family never spayed/neutered animals. We lived on a couple of acres (in the boonies) and they helped with the birds and vermin. Anyways, Ridley really hates the pet carrier. I can get him in it but once he figures out he's not getting out he starts howling and pleading to be let out. His office visit went fine and he's recovering well.
He was really hungry though. I woke up last night to him licking the pita chips bag. He usually doesn't do that kind of thing. It was loud enough for it to come through to my dreams. It kinda freaked me out. We just feed him a bit more and he went to sleep.

We went to see Snow White and the Huntsman  last weekend. It was pretty goo. I like the dark and fantasy aspects of the movie. It was a lot darker. I like dark fairy tales. It makes it more realistic.  Hopefully, we'll be seeing Prometheus.  It looks like a good sci-fi movie . It'll make a nice dinner date for us. Jesse found his gift cards so it'll make it cheaper to go to dinner.

I've been in a funk this week. I've been wanting to sew but haven't had the drive to do it. I have a ton of fabric that I can make dresses and skirt out of but I'm always afraid I won't look well in a dress. Or worse yet that I'll look like some old matronly women. I don't know. I've been losing weight slowly. My doctor said that it's better if I lose the weight slowly it'll stay off longer than crash dieting. I've never had much confidence. I know I can look nice but I don't always feel like I look good.  I know I'll never be a small women and for the most part I'm okay with that. I like having boobs and a booty. I wish my waist were smaller but I can live with it. I'm health and my husband loves me as I am. Sorry for the downer.

I did get my new shoes last week. They're totally gorgeous. All leather and a comfy soles.

PhotobucketHere's Ridley being all cuddly post-op. All the vet techs kept calling him a handsome big boy.  He weighs 13.2 lbs. He's under house arrest until his sutures heal.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and fun weekend.
