Mama's Got a Brand-New Hat

Saturday I woke up and was surprised to find the  world had been blanketed by a couple inches of snow. I was super excited! I ran around the house opening the blinds and curtains. I truly love snow and how it mas everything look a lot prettier. Ridley wasn't too impressed that is until I opened the back door and he got a whiff of the snow. Then he couldn't wait to get out.

Snow always makes me happy. I get all giggly and just stare out the window.  To me it's such a great part of nature. I love rain too and love watching it fall with a nice cup of hot tea and some cookies.

Over the last week I've knitted a couple of new patterns. I bought this book a couple of months with birthday money.  It's a big honking book. It has a lot of lovely projects too. The best thing is that most of the patterns are in my bust measurement. I've been wanting to up my knitting skills and this book will do that. I'm learning to read knitting charts too. I made the "Pictoral Sunday Beret" out of this book. It was an easy knit just really slow going since it was on small needles. I may remake the bow. It's a lot bigger in the book than in real life. Please. excuse my slightly frizzy hair. One side is always more manageable than the other. I used to have curls when I was a baby  so my hair can be nice and wavy or a frizzy mess. Today it was both

I also made a pair of fingerless gloves in matching yarn. These were really easy to make and I used a chart to make them so I'm getting practice in for bigger projects. Both the beret and glove are made from wool so they should keep me pretty warm. I'm going to take this for our trip down to So Cal.

Thanksgiving in less than a week away and I'm totally psyched to see our families. I need to start packing and making lists of the things we want to do and buy.  Tonight we're going to a cheese store that is opening in Reno. One of Jesse's co-workers knows the owner and mentioned it to him. We both really like gourmet cheese especially goat cheese. It has  very smooth and sweet taste to it. It pairs wonderfully with sweet apples and grapes. Wine? I'm not so sure. We're not big wine drinkers but I really like dessert wineI guess we'll see how ti goes tonight.

Here's Ridley playing at Secret Agent Cat. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

  1. Oooo I love the cute hat and gloves! No snow here yet...but it's getting colder and we have been firing up the wood stove on a daily basis since the end of October! I can't believe Thanksgiving is next week already.

    1. Thank you. I'm really please with how they turned out. Yeah we've just started using out heater. I would have loved a stove or chimney but it was extra to rent an apartment with one.

  2. I love the little pink hat so adorable! No snow here either, living so close to lake Michigan we either get slammed with snow or get really mild weather, we shall see.

    1. Thank you. We've gotten rain in the last couple of days. More rain than last year so maybe we'll get snow for Christmas. That's my hope anyway.

  3. What a fabulously cute hat! Pink is my favourite colour, especially the softer shades, so you can imagine how much I adore your new winter topper. Love the matching fingerless gloves, too. Though the ground is bare at the moment, we've had snow here already, too, and I dug out all of gloves, toques, winter boots, etc last week so that we'd be ready for when the snow starts (and pretty much doesn't stop) for good.

Thank you very, very much for all of your comments, sweet gal. I always look forward to hearing from you and really appreciate your impute and visits.

    Have a beautiful, relaxing Sunday,
    Jessica

    1. Thank you. I've had the yarn for a while. My mom and I bought it for 99 cents a skein. It was like 75% off. I'm hoping for a white Christmas this year.

    1. Thank you. Our snowfalls hardly last the day. It hasn't gotten cold enough to keep it around.

  7. I'm always amazed by how fast you make new things, that hat and glove set are so cute. Your book looks fabulous too, I'm looking forward to seeing the things you make from it.

I used to love snow when I lived in England but now I live in Scotland I feel a bit fed up with it to be honest, it hasn't started yet but it's due any day now. It is lovely when it's all fresh and sparkly though, and the kids and pets look really cute jumping about in it. It's just when I've been pushing a pushchair through the slush and snowdrifts for weeks on end, then I don't like it anymore.

I'm not much of a gourmet when it comes to cheese but I always mean to make up a nice cheeseboard and start learning what's nice, that's it, I'm going to do it this New Year's Eve! I don't really drink wine either, I prefer a spirit with coke usually.

Ridley is so handsome in his bow tie, I hope you have a very happy Thanksgiving with your families. xx

    1. Thank you. Since it's just the two of us and I don't work, I have a lot of time on my hands.
Everyone I talk to tells me that I'll love the snow for a few years then I'll end up hating it. I find it hard to believe. I grew up in Sunny California where you can 90*F weather in December so this colder weather is great to me.

    1. Thanks! He used to play with the neighborhood cats but since he got fixed he's very territorial and scares them off. He's one fierce bad kitty as my father-in-law says.
