Bedspread? Done.

Well it's been a  couple of weeks since I last blog. Again. I've was busy. I mean, really busy. I was finally able to finish making all of the squares for my bedspread. Then I proceeded to join the squares into row and then those rows into a bedspread. But now it's done. Yay! Hooray! I did have to make one final run to Wal-Mart for some yarn to finish joining the squared and add a final edge. I'm happy to be done with this project. The bedspread is heavy; it easily weighs 10 pounds. The heaviness lends to it staying in place until we go to bed.

Well, here she is in all her colorful glory. I was really worried about how she would turn out. Every time I start  a major project, I always feel that it looks, well, bad. It really doesn't look good, to me, until it's all said and done.Every knitting or crochet project pretty much goes like this.

A couple of months ago, Jess and I finally got around to put our pin up girls well up. There aren't original prints or anything. I don;t think we could afford an original print unless I happen to find it at a thrift store. Most of our prints are by Olivia. We love her art style and tasteful nudity.I really want to sand and re-stain the night stands and my dresser but Jess says to leave it alone and keep the old varnish. Jess likes the original stain on most furniture.

A few weeks ago, I bought a couple pairs of shoes. I'm always on the look out for vintage-inspired shoes. Unfortunately, my feet are  "too big" for vintage shoes. "Big" being a US size 9.5  Whenever I'm bored, I will look through Amerimark's website and check out there shoes. They are mostly "old lady" shoes and clothing. However, a lot of the shoes have a vintage feel and look to them. I came across these shoes in the clearance section. Heck yeah. $6 a pair? Don't mind if I do. I bought a pair in Bone and Brown.

These shoes are very 1940's to me. They actually look like some of the shoes I've seen on vintage ads.  I love the wedge heel and the elastic on the top of the foot. These are really easy and comfy to wear.  I just wish I'de been able to buy another pair in black. I need a good, solid pair of black shoes. I would LOVE to get a pair these beauties. I just can't bring myself to spend that much on a pair of shoes. I mean, if I had endless amounts of money sure but that's more than half our car payment. Maybe one day.

I think my jewelry box is getting a bit crowded. I've been keeping my eye out for another one. I've come across a few but they're either in bad condition or too expensive. I'll wait. Garage sale season is starting up again and I'm gonna be looking for new additions.

I've had the green, the oranges, and the rainbow spiral earrings  for almost ten years. Back before thrifting was a popular, mainstream  pastime. I've found some great items since moving out here but in California items are scarce.

I bought this straw purse last summer when my sister was visiting. I love me a good straw purse. I lined the purse with some fabric my mother-in-law gave me and didn't really do anything else with it. I later bought a dead stock plastic floral ring and didn't do anything with that either. The other day I was on Etsy and it hit me. I can use the plastic flowers to make my purse more summery! So what do y'all think? This is how I have them arranged for now. I haven't glued them down or anything because it always takes me a while to figure out how I want things.

I've been sewing up a storm lately. I'm in the middle of finishing a circle skirt and plan on starting a new dress either today or tomorrow. I realized that I don't have a lot of blouses to pair with my many skirts. I also want to make a couple of pairs of trousers for Fall and Winter time. I know it seems insane to thing of Fall and Winter so early into Spring but around here Winter lasts the longest.

Here's a pic of Ridley patiently waiting for his Momma to finish sewing. He does love petticoats. He likes to play with them and sleep with them. Luckily, this one is a bit sturdier than more petticoats. I converted it from a bridal petticoat I bought a few years ago. The netting is thick and very stiff.

    1. Thank you. I think this bedspread will be in the family for a while. There's no way I could sell it. I wouldn't be able to get what time and money I put into it.

    1. Thank you! I wanted something colorful that would cheer me up in the dreary winter months. I'm slowly but surely increasing my glitter Lucite collection. I'd love to have more but they are a bit pricey online.

  3. That bedspread turned out beautiful! Love how colorful it is! Great idea to add those flowers to your straw purse. The purse alone is adorable but the flowers make it even cuter!

I feel your pain on finding vintage shoes. I'm a size 10 and the few pairs I have found are so narrow :-( At least there are good repro styles out there!

    1. Thank you! I love the vintage purses with flowers on them but they're usually out of my budget. I find great deals online or at thrift stores but the darn shoes are always too small. Sometimes if I wait long enough I will find a killer pair of shoes.

  5. What a fantastic bedspread! This looked time-consuming, but oh so worth it! The result is awesome!! Also, between the cool kids and the vintage stores, finding vintage in a California thrift store is a rare, but welcome occasion. Your straw purse reminds me of a similar one I bought a few weeks ago that has straw grapes on it! So cute!!

    1. Thank you! It was very time consuming but it gave me something to do since I don't work. Yeah, my sister is one of those cool kids. Last time she was here she bought some big granny glasses. She had me remove the lenses and was wearing them around. I just don't understand the appeal to wear lense-less glasses especially since I have to wear glasses to see.

  6. Oh your bedspread is absolutely lovely! You did a fabulous job. And those shoes surely have a vintage look to them. Great price too!
Your Jewelery box looks a bit like mine, *hehehe* full and cluttered. I have found most of my vintage jewelery boxes at garage sales and thrifts so I am sure you will come across another.

    1. Thank you! Since I don't work, it toke me about a week and a half to make all the squares and piece them together. I think if I'd be going any slower it would have taken a long time.

  14. What an incredibly lovely bedspread. Colour is so important in decor, I think. That isn't to say a pale room can't be beautiful, it certainly can be, but I just think colour adds such spice, energy and happiness to a room. I could never be cheerful living in a home that didn't have at least a few great pops of hue - like this amazing bedspread - in it.

    Thoroughly awesome work, dear Mariela!!!

  18. The bedspread turned out really beautiful Mariela, I love the shot of it on your bed, it just brings the whole room alive. And I love the peek into your jewellery box, I tend to buy junk jewellery on sale so I also have way too much. Great new sandals, the pair you linked to are lovely as well, but expensive like you say. Keep an eye on them though, and they might go on sale one day, fingers crossed! xx

    1. Thank you! Sometimes I can get good shots other times not so much. Using my hubby's camera makes taking good photos a lot easier.

I periodically check their website and they do have some shoes on clearance. But even then, they are still over $120 plus shipping. I'll keep looking online or in thrift stores.

  22. I am always late to the party :) Your bedspread is so bright and cheery, nice job! I used to work in a porn story and the only thing I remember fondly were the Olivia prints we carried, she is so talented and yes tasteful! Jewelry boxes can be tricky sometimes with stuffed stashed aways your less likely to wear it. I am working on a cool way of displaying my necklaces now. I think your idea to add flowers to the purse is awesome!

    1. Thank you. Better late than never. I've always wondered what it would be like to work in a porn store. I bet it was interesting. I've been leaving my box open so I know what I have ready to wear.
